MOT volatility low into Android smartphone launch

Motorola (MOT) closed yesterday at $7.90.

MOT's Co-CEO Sanjay Jha is expected to introduce its Android handsets on Sept. 10. He is also expected to give a keynote address at the GigaOm Mobilize conference in San Francisco on Sept. 15.

MOT September 8 straddle is priced at 62 cents.

MOT October call option implied volatility is at 54, and puts are at 51; MOT January 2010 is at 48; below its six-month average of 59, according to Track Data, suggesting decreasing price movement.


NEM volatility flat; gold above $998

Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM), the world's largest non-hedged gold producer, closed yesterday at $45.70.

Gold is recently down .10% to $998.80, according to Bloomberg.

NEM September call option implied volatility is at 47, and puts are at 55; October calls are at 45, and puts are at 51; versus its six-month average of 51, according to Track Data, suggesting non-directional price movement.
