Stock to Short #2: Sears Holding Corp. (SHLD)
Been in a Sears lately? It's a great place to read a book undisturbed. They are terrible stores typically found in older malls. And, in an effort to save a buck, consumers are foregoing malls and heading to big-box stores like Wal-Mart (WMT) and Costco (COST). But, wait, doesn't Sears Holding Corp. (SHLD) own Kmart? Yup, and that discounter has seen negative comparable stores sales for eight years.
For some crazy reason, though, the stock has run up this year. But don't be fooled. SHLD has a very weak balance sheet, and Wall Street will come to its senses at some point.
