Top Summer Stock #8: Gilead Sciences
It's never pleasant to think about illness, particularly when you'd rather be out having fun this summer. But harmful biological forces are always among us, even when we'd rather forget about them. Fortunately, there is one great company that's always thinking about how to combat diseases—biopharmaceutical firm Gilead Sciences (GILD) .
GILD is already wildly profitable, and it continues growing north of 20% per year. The company receives a 20% royalty on flu treatment drug Tamiflu, and with the recent swine flu scare, sales of the drug are likely to surge. Gilead also has several promising drugs slated for release later this year. This stock was one of the few that held up well through the 2008 meltdown, and it will likely remain strong regardless of the whims of the overall market. So, not only can Gilead protect your health with its drug therapies, the shares may also help your portfolio stay healthy.
